Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • learn to deliver formal presentations.

  • respond to non-fiction writing.

  • make connections to non-fiction text.

  • analyze the elements of drama.

  • learn new vocabulary.


Homework:

  • Vocabulary Packet: Chapter 17 (given at the end of class)
  • Scene Summaries in Cornell Notes Style
  • The teacher is checking all today's work tomorrow.

Speaking Section: Review Presentation Assignments
  • Explain the assignments. Presentations are worth 15% of your grade.
  • Dialectical Journal = 5% (the presentation and the writing are two separate grades)
  • Portfolio Presentation = 10%
    • Follow the guide on your web sites.
    • You are allowed to use 3x5 cards.
    • Show students the rubric:
      • Discuss the rubric.
      • What kinds of questions will I ask? (Charting the text and anything that was unclear from your presentation)
  • Wednesday: Dialectical Journal Presentations
  • Thursday and Friday: Portfolio Presentations

Speaking Section: Review Connections Chart
  • share two of your connections with a partner.
  • Call on student volunteers to share.

Writing Section: Respond to the Prompt
  • One page letter.

Reading Section: Complete Act 4 of Romeo and Juliet
  • Read/listen/and watch the Act
  • Students complete Act 4 in the Packet
  • Students complete the Analyze Literature questions at the end of the Act

Give students time, if any is left, to work on presentations/dialectical journals.

Pass out Ch. 17 Packet.
